And God blessed them. And God said to them,
“Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it,
and have dominion over the fish of the sea
and over the birds of the heavens
and over every living thing that moves on the earth.”
Genesis 1:28 (ESV)
Whenever a product is not used for it's originally intended purpose, you will end up abusing and destroying the product. Substituting a shoe as a hammer might be a normal occurrence for some diy-disabled ladies, but the original purpose of the shoe got altered and will eventually break. You need to use the product for the reason it was primarily intended or you will destroy it.
When God created us in His image, He never intended for us to be small or downcast. To have thoughts of inadequacy is nothing short of abusing God's original design with images of deceptive humility. This will end up destroying God's creation.
When God explained to mankind His original purpose for us, He used some pretty strong words to make convey His expectation He has of us. He created the human "product" for greatness and success, not failure and submission.
No-one who feels small will ever describe themselves as "fruitful," or "multiplying". God told us to "subdue" the earth and have "dominion" over it. These are words of faith, encouragement and leadership. More than that, it is a mandate.
Sin, however, has the opposite effect. It makes you feel inadequate and selfish. Sin will cause you to look at yourself from a different perspective. Do not be slaves to sin and submit to its lies. Sin has no hold on you. Shake it off and stand in the redemption of the Gospel.
Do not let sin define you. Ignore the voices of small thinking and listen to your Designer that says you have the innate ability to be fruitful and multiply everything you touch. Listen to the echo of design telling you how to rule over your circumstances and dominate your world by love.
God's original design was success and greatness. Jesus came to restore this original mandate for mankind by destroying the ugliness of sin on a cross. On that glorious day when Jesus was raised from the dead, this original mandate was given back to mankind.
We do not honour our King by thinking ourselves to be sinners and nothing in this world. Jesus' Name is glorified when you believe in the power of the Gospel to enlarge your capacity daily and live with a victorious mindset in His Kingdom.
I love this encouraging prophecy given to Jerusalem by Isaiah:
put on your strength, O Zion;
put on your beautiful garments,
O Jerusalem, the holy city;
for there shall no more come into you
the uncircumcised and the unclean.
Shake yourself from the dust and arise;
be seated, O Jerusalem;
loose the bonds from your neck,
O captive daughter of Zion.
Isaiah 52:1-2 (ESV)
Get up from the dust and shake off the thoughts of despondency. Loose the bonds around your neck that drag you down into this pit of despair. You were created in God's image and redeemed by the Blood of Jesus. This is how much you are worth.
Be fruitful, multiply, fill the earth and subdue it!
